Survey Result!
over 4 years ago – Tue, Nov 05, 2019 at 01:37:00 AM

Hello, Beautiful People of The Jollylook Community!

Thank you for backing Jollylook!

Thank you for answering our survey and sharing your thoughts. That means a lot to us.

The results:

Out of the 575 responses we received:

165 backers chose "Continue slowly shipping all the remaining rewards."

300 backers chose "Launch  a new Kickstarter campaign for the square format camera and use a part of the raised funds to complete the obligations of the first campaign."

110 backers chose "other" and suggested many things like:

  • Do both and keep on pushing.
  • Give the option to backers from the first campaign that have not received their camera to allocate a credit toward your new campaign.
  • I still want the camera I backed and I will back the new square if you launch it.
  • I would like to just pay extra and have it shipped.
  • JollyLook is so much more than just a camera. At this point in the process, Kickstarter I submit to you to determine the best choice moving forward. Initially backing your project I just wanted a cool instant camera, now I look forward to receiving a powerful token, a reminder of dedication to quality and detail, an homage to perseverance and dedication. Through this experience you have gained my trust, I trust that whatever you choose will be the best option. Thank you for everything thus far. I look forward to seeing what happens next.
  • Launch a new campaign and offer your patient first kickstarter customers a discount on the new square camera.
  • Refund
  • Request extra funds from the jollylook community, I would be happy to invest more ☺
Survey results

As we said in the previous update, we will only launch a new campaign in case we receive your support and approval. Taking all the above survey results, we will continue shipping as many cameras as we can afford to and prepare for the new campaign launch.

In order to make sure we are able to fulfill, we will set a goal of $100,000 for the new campaign of the Jollylook Mini Instant Automatic, it will be made of solid and durable materials in a classic design. This camera will have the same 110mm lens, automatic shutter (battery-powered), a flash for indoor and weak lighting conditions.

The square format Instant Automatic will be available as a stretch goal if we reach $150,000.

This way if we get funded we are sure we will be able to fulfill, if we don't get funded, we will still continue selling the Jollylook mini and shipping rewards to backers.

For those of you who asked how they can add $10 for shipping, you can do that by opening your order on Backerkit:  https://jollylook.backerkit.com/  and adding the fast shipping add-on. We have unlocked all orders so you can do that.

For those of you who asked for our Paypal account for extra support:

We once again Thank You.

All of you will receive your rewards!

We thank you for your patience and for sharing your emotions, even when some of you are unhappy with us.

Without you, this project would not be possible, and because of you, it will succeed.

We will keep you updated on our progress.

THANK YOU!

What Should We Do Survey!
over 4 years ago – Wed, Oct 23, 2019 at 01:26:19 AM

Hello, Beautiful People of The Jollylook Community!

Thank you for backing Jollylook!

The Jollylook story is much longer than we expected, and yes, today there will be more text than usually.

The complexity of product development was only one of the many difficulties we had:

Development, organizing components manufacturing and camera production in China, transfer of production to Ukraine, corrections and alterations, solution of logistics problems, search for additional financing, product improvement, premises preparation, personnel training, equipment purchase and manufacturing, shipping.

My son 17 years old is a college student and works as a software developer in a university laboratory to earn money from his needs, a few days ago he asked me for an advice on how to make a regulation algorithm... We quickly found examples of the right code available on the web, and when I asked him yesterday if this part of the software is ready, he said he was still dealing with the mathematical function to write the code himself: he didn't use the ready-made code, his argument was simple - "after I'd do it, it would be my valuable experience".

I thought at the time that each of us was gaining such experience throughout our lives and that we had probably done the right thing in creating our own production in Ukraine without having such plans in the first place, but how difficult it turned out to be!

When we ran out of money and it became clear that we couldn't survive without starting to sell some cameras. Hoping that this would solve the problem and we would fulfill our commitments to our backers.

We are very grateful to those of you who agreed to pay extra for the delivery, which also saved us a significant amount of money and allowed us to ship the 2000 cameras in August.

Today, after zero sales during August and September, we don't have enough to cover all current expenses - people's salaries, taxes, components, etc.

Out of 8279 cameras for our backers we've already shipped 5847 cameras. We have to ship 2432 more to fulfill this project. After that we plan to replace the reported 173 faulty cameras.

We now have 1069 cameras ready in our warehouse and we've got to manufactur 1363 more to ship the remaining cameras to our backers.

Commitment to those who supported us proved to be a solid foundation for our perseverance. We can't let you down, and even when we don't have the resources, for us, the success of this project is ultimately a matter of reputation and self-respect!

Unfortunately, our personal financial resources are exhausted, and we still lack the resources to fulfill our obligations.

We are now asking for your advice: being in a critical financial situation, and one step away from fulfilling this project, we see that we have 2 options:

1. To continue slowley shipping all the remaining rewards.

2. To launch a new campaign for the square format camera and use a part of the raised funds to complete our obligations in this campaign.

We will only launch a new campaign in case we receive your support and approval.

We've developed a new cameras made of solid and durable materials in a classic design that we are sure everyone will love, it is an instant camera for the square format with automatic exposure and a flash. Below are a few photos to help you understand what we are talking about, most of the elements of this camera are already produced by us - they are used in the cardboard Jollylook mini.

Jollylook square

By using only a portion of the funds raised from the campaign for these cameras, we will be able to replenish the working capital deficit, and meet our commitments.

We already have the necessary equipment for manufacturing.

I appeal to those who supported us: Kickstarter is a unique place, people here risk and share the enthusiasm of others.

Many of you may be disappointed with the long wait or dissatisfied with the result of our work, others look at our story as a fascinating film with an unpredictable outcome.

It's not really a story about a camera... It's a story about gaining experience, about mistakes, about struggle and perseverance, and mo matter what - we will fulfill our obligations!

We are very much counting on your support and approval, and we ask you to leave your opinion and take the survey by clicking this link.

Also, since many backer have asked us to sell the development unit separatly for their custom DIY cameras, we start selling them for today on our website.

We once again Thank You.

All of you will receive your rewards!

We thank you for your patience and for sharing your emotions, even when some of you are unhappy with us.

Without you, this project would not be possible, and because of you, it will succeed.

We will keep you updated on our progress.

THANK YOU!

Until next time,

The Jollylook team.

The Second Ukrainian Batch Shipping!
almost 5 years ago – Fri, Aug 02, 2019 at 11:10:57 PM

Hello, Beautiful People of The Jollylook Community!

Thank you for backing Jollylook!

Straight to the news:

As we said in the previous update, we will ship as many rewards as we can afford to, and we did.

Our team finished packing these rewards yesterday.

We just shipped 2000 cameras today!

They are on their way to the European terminal of our shipping partner.

Once they arrive, and the tracking codes will be scanned and become active, you will receive an email with your tracking number through Backerkit. We expect that to happen mid next week.

Like promised, we shipped in backer's number order and also prioritized those who paid the extra shipping fee. This means that if you are in the first 3000 backers or have added funds for fast shipping on Backerkit - you will receive your reward in the coming 2 weeks. Excluding only backers that added the polarized filters set, those backers will receive their rewards in the next and hopefully final batch. We will do our best to send the rest of the rewards in the coming 2 months.

Those of you who still want to add $10 for shipping, you can do that by opening your order on Backerkit: https://jollylook.backerkit.com/ and adding the fast shipping add-on.

The situation today is that we don't have the funds to buy film and we will have to be shipping all the rewards without it. Many of you have already agreed to that in the survey. Thank for understanding and your massive support. We feel we need to give you something in return. All backers can get a personal 20% discount code for purchases on our website. If you want to get that code - please send us a private message and we will send you your code.

Backer's rewards that are shipped consists of:

1. Jollylook Camera ($69 retail price)

2. Jollylook Neckstrap ($7 retail)

3. Jollylook Tripod Plate ($7 retail)

4. Grey polarized filter (not available in retail)

While you are waiting for your rewards, please watch the video instructions manual on our website.

Jollylook is a manual analog camera, you need to learn how to use it to get great results.

Film Survey Results!
almost 5 years ago – Thu, Jul 04, 2019 at 01:55:57 AM

Hello, Beautiful People of The Jollylook Community!

Thank you for backing Jollylook!

Although it has been 3 weeks since we posted the survey, we still have people answering it everyday.

The results so far are: 439 backers agreed to receive their rewards without film and 159 agreed to get charged additional $10 for shipping. We received so many words of encouragement and support from the backer's who answered the survey. Thank you so much for that! It really helps us keep going forward.

We also received $430 of donations and words of support to our Paypal account. Thank you so much amazing people.

Whats next:

We will lock the orders on backerkit in 24 hours and charge those who added funds. After that we will start preparing for shipping.

Those of you who didn't take the survey and want to add $10 for shipping, you can do that by opening your order on Backerkit:  https://jollylook.backerkit.com/  and adding the fast shipping add-on

The only reason we shipped not in backer's number order earlier is because we had stock of Monochrome film, and all the previous rewards that we sent where for those backers who chose that flm.

From now on we will be shipping the orders in backer's number order and will prioritise those who payed the extra shipping fee and chose to receive the camera without film.

We still have to ship 4300 cameras to our backers and we are doing our best to do that as soon as possible.

In maximum 2 weeks from now will ship as many cameras as we can afford to and will update you on that number.

We once again Thank You

All of you will receive your rewards!

We  thank you for your patience and for sharing your emotions, even when some of you are unhappy with us.

Without you, this project would not be possible, and because of you, it will succeed.

We will keep you updated on our progress.

THANK YOU!

Until next time,

The Jollylook team.

Film Survey!
almost 5 years ago – Thu, Jun 13, 2019 at 01:51:33 AM

Hello, Beautiful People of The Jollylook Community!

Thank you for backing Jollylook!

After the update two days ago, we received some comments of anger from unhappy backers. That is painful, but thank you, you backed our idea and we were not able to deliver to your expectations, but as we said in the previous update, we can absolutly understand you.

Jollylook is a small team that has a vision and will do everything to make this project successful.

There were at least 5 times during the past two years when we could have said that we failed, and that this project has come to an end, but we never did, and don't plan to.

We had to move all the production from China to Ukraine and start everything from scratch. The founders, Oleg and Evgeniy had to invest all their personal savings and even borrow money on top of that.

Every camera in the first Ukrainian batch costed double the Kickstarter price. We always found a solution to survive, and will continue that habbit.

Here is the prototype camera that we had 2 years ago:

Here is the camera we have today:

Jollylook is handmade.

The manufacturing process consists of 155 manual operations.
Using 59 parts and blanks, and although cardboard blanks are made at a print shop, the qualification and skills of the people assembling them is very important.

Manufacturing one Jollylook camera takes 42 minutes of hand work!

The process of developing skills among the workers takes about two months and still requires constant full quality control.

... But also, after the update two days ago, we received so many comments and especially private messages with words of support and understanding. Offering us help, asking how to send us money, asking how to order more cameras, saying we are happy to receive Jollylook without film.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

For sharing our dream and being so supportive when we need it most.

Here is a survey for all those who are happy to receive their cameras without film:

We have unlocked all orders on Backerkit, if you need to review your address information, or you want to order extra cameras at the Kickstarter price to support us, you are able to recover your survey here:

At the end of this month we will ship as much rewards as we can and will post an update with the results.

We thank you once again for your patience and for sharing your emotions.

Without you, this project would not be possible, and because of you, it is still going on and will succeed.

We will keep you updated on our progress.

THANK YOU!

Until next time,

The Jollylook team.
