Latest Updates from Our Project:

The Quality Control
almost 6 years ago – Sun, May 27, 2018 at 02:12:56 AM

Hello, Beautiful People of The Jollylook Community!

Thank you for backing Jollylook!

Straight to the news:

We managed to fix the shutters problem, but the solution wasn't fast, we had to take apart every single shutter of every camera

clean the old permanent stickiness glue

and re-glue them with the completely drying glue

Then insert them back into the shutter block

This didn't always work well, so we had to make more new shutters and replace a lot of them.

Finally, the factory began to produce ready cameras. But unfortunately, selective quality control showed an unacceptable percentage of rejects of a different nature.

We did not expect that this simple product will cause so many difficulties for the manufacturer, and are very concerned about not only the release of the current batch but also how we can organize further production. We took a difficult but the only right decision: hired employees who are not factory workers, to check every single camera before packing, the quality control includes checking the reliability of the gluing, cleanliness and correct assembly, the correctness of the shutter, the development unit and the light tightness of the entire camera body. It will take some more time but we are now at the final test and pack stage.

Our main goal is to send you a perfect working camera. And as one of our backers metioned, when everything ends well, Oleg should write if not a book then a detailed story of what we went through to bring Jollylook from an idea to reality.

As we said in the previous update, we are very frustrated that we are letting you down by not delivering the cameras on time. But we can not compromise on quality! We have to make sure you get a perfect product.

We thank you ALL once again for your patience and massive support, we can't wait to send you your rewards and we beleive that the next update will be about the shipment.

We will keep you updated.

THANK YOU!

Until next time,

The Jollylook team.

Shutters!
about 6 years ago – Sat, Apr 28, 2018 at 01:48:25 AM

Hello, Beautiful People of The Jollylook Community!

Thank you for backing Jollylook!

Straight to the news:

During the packaging, we ran random Jollylook camera tests, and we found a large percentage of defective shutters that peeled off. We were totally shocked and forced to stop packaging and began to look for the cause and solution.

It turned out that the factory used an incorrect glue - the glue of permanent stickiness instead of what we confirmed with them - completely drying glue, so the shutters were peeling apart after some time.

We sincerely apologize for not updating you for a while and not responding to your messages. We have been fully involved in fixing this problem, we had to take apart all the cameras and re-glue the shutters with the correct glue.

Now we are trying to speed up the process. We did not want to mislead you with the dates again and we are waiting for the factory to have perfect cameras ready, so we could finally inform you that all your cameras have been sent out.

Due to the holidays in China, the factory will not be working from the 28th of April and will go back to work on the 2nd of May. The factory promises that the cameras will be ready by May 14th. We expect to send the cameras to our shipping partners on the 17th of May.

You have been so supportive, patient and understanding throughout the Jollylook journey! We are very frustrated that we are letting you down by not delivering the cameras on time. It has been a tough journey for us. But your faith is what brought Jollylook to life and we need it now more than ever! We can't wait to send you your rewards and we thank you All once again for your patience and massive support!

We will keep you updated.

THANK YOU!

Until next time,

The Jollylook team.

Production!
over 6 years ago – Tue, Jan 23, 2018 at 12:45:27 AM

Hello, Beautiful People of The Jollylook Community!

Thank you for backing Jollylook!

The News:

Oleg went to Thailand for New Year, where he spent several days with his wife (the flight to Europe would be too far for an early return to China). On one of the sunny days, He took a few photos with Jollylook experimenting with the exposure, here are the successful shots of this heaven on earth:

Taking one of the photos, Oleg accidentally left the lens shifted up and the diaphragm of 45 worked like a pinhole! Here's how it looks:

Here are photos on a cloudy day before sunset:

Several New Year's days passed quickly and after the New Year's break, as soon as our factories continued their work, Oleg returned to China to monitor the quality of the conveyor production. The rhythm of production was satisfying, here for an example is a video of Jollylook body assembly:

To control compliance with the assembly technology, there are technological maps that describe each operation in detail, the factory workers who are assembling on the conveyor are trained and verify their work using them:

The first batch of Jollylook is 10,000 cameras.

During pauses OIeg continued to do serial Jollylook tests. He checked how the filters worked:

He made a series of photos with different exposures. Here are photos taken on a sunny day from a window with four different aperture values, the front garden at the hotel at nine in the morning, and of course Oleg tried to make selfies with different diaphragms... these photos were taken on the same day, He stood facing the window holding the camera in his outstretched hand, the shooting distance was set to 0.6m:

Oleg was happy with the result: in many cases, the quality of the images even exceeds the quality of photos taken with an automatic camera - a wide range of aperture and a cool pinhole do their job perfectly! However, the camera requires accuracy, attention and proper exposure selection.

Unfortunately, this time again was not without a problem: testing the manufactured bellows, Oleg found periodically occurring microdamages of the light-shielded paper layer and he had to reject all three thousand already made bellows and five thousand blanks!

It is necessary to re-select the paper, and to produce the bellows again, the cause of the rejection was insufficient paper strength when forming by stamping, (before that the bellows were made on a plotter and the quality of the paper looked acceptable).

In total, about 8,000 camera bodies are ready for use today:

But the bellows will have to be remade, the total delay before the beginning of gluing of the bellows will be about two weeks from today, which means that it will not be possible to start the shipment before the Chinese New Year. We have already paid all suppliers and contractors and there is no turning back!

The grief quickly changed to the determination to get the perfect result anyway. Nobody before us made an instant camera out of paper and no one organized its mass production, as you see watching us it is not so simple. Of course we will get the perfect result! We will fulfill our obligations to you and continue the business that we started thanks to your support. We are very impatient for one more reason: all the time while preparing the production of "Jollylook" we were developing other models of Jollylook cameras, among them there are both expected models and a completely unexpected one... but all this we will be able to offer you only after the completion of the most difficult first stage, after you get your cameras and we get your feedback.

We would like to thank you All once again for your massive support and patience!

We will keep you updated.

THANK YOU!

Untill next time,

The Jollylook Team.
